Day 1031 – January 12, 2025
We truly know what a happy new year is: A piece of paper showing no detectable cancer in our warrior 1 year after receiving CAR T therapy!

We received these results late in the afternoon January 10th. This is all we’ve wanted and hoped for since Harv’s diagnosis on March 18, 2022! We have our boy back, he has slowly been gaining his life back, and we’ve shared some amazing experiences together over the past few months as a family. We can’t wait to share them with you! We’ll have an update coming soon, including a video, of Harvey’s (and family’s) fall 2024 activities and happenings.
Thanks to these promising test results, it’s possible that Harvey may never need another bone marrow biopsy or spinal tap again! So, what comes next?
- He will continue needing IVIg infusions regularly to keep his immune system functioning (since he does not have B cells in his blood to do this for him).
- He will continue having regular checkups and lab work now every three months at Children’s MN to ensure there are no new concerns.
- He will have appointments and lab work at CHOP in Philadelphia, PA now every six months for the next five years. After reaching the five-year mark, these CHOP checkups will transition to yearly appointments for another ten years.
- Once he hits his three-year mark in remission, he will begin appointments at the survivorship clinic to monitor for any long-term health concerns from all the chemotherapy treatments he received.
We are so blessed to share that the only remaining procedure planned for him is the removal of his port in the coming months. Since he is no longer undergoing cancer treatment, the port is no longer necessary. However, we’ve been hesitant to have it removed because it would mean switching to arm pokes for blood tests and IVIg infusions. The last time his arm was poked, it was both traumatic and happened on the very day of his diagnosis (3/18/2022)—a day that changed his life forever.
At Harvey’s IVIg infusion appointment on December 9th, however, he bravely tried having his arm poked instead of using his port. …and he was absolutely amazing! No problem at all. He’s now had two IVIg infusions with his arm accessed, the last being on January 10th, so he’ll likely be ready for port removal in the near future.

We are indescribably thankful for this moment. This journey has forced us to live fully in the present—we’ve always known, but now truly understand, that nothing is ever guaranteed. Today, we share our pure joy and gratitude, not taking a single moment for granted. But also know that, as we share our warrior’s story, we’ve met and learned about so many other warriors along the way. We follow their trials and tribulations, many of which we’ve experienced firsthand. We’ve shared in celebrating some of their happiest moments during some of our darkest times. And we know that when we’ve had terrible news to share on this site, other warriors have had amazingly great news. The opposite also holds true, unfortunately.

Throughout this journey, we’ve often found ourselves shedding tears of joy alongside tears of sorrow—and this week is no different. We are heartbroken to share that Josh Hansen, an 18-year-old warrior from Rochester, MN, passed away on January 9th. He was diagnosed in May 2022 and had leukemia (PH-like B-Cell ALL) similar to Harvey. Josh, along with the entire Hansen family, has given us so much hope and inspiration since their first update on May 9th, 2022. We send our love to George, Monica, Leah, and the entire Hansen family. Please lift this family up as they navigate the next minutes, days, months, and years to come. [View Josh’s CaringBridge Page]
I’m so happy that Harvey continues in remission , GOD IS GOOD we will continue to pray , and also pray for Josh family.

Got a call from grandma Lisa of this awesome report! It’s been a long and hard journey and I’ve been on my knees more than my feet praying for our Harvey who is such a warrior! Through all this he has kept that sparkle in his eyes! He ministers to me when I see his resilient he is after all his been through! I personally want to thank all who have prayed and been so faithful. The Bible says “a child shall lead us” and I believe great things for Harvey!
